Course Description

This course looks at the 20th century through the lenses of two political traditions: liberalism and socialism. We will ask how these traditions have understood two main political values – freedom and equality – and how their stances on gender, race, economic issues, and environmental protection evolved through the century. Assignments will include three essays.
