Approaches to Contemporary Political Theory: Critical Theories of the State

This course will explore critical theories of the state. The focus will be on the post-1945 era, although Marx will obviously be an important reference point throughout. More particularly, we will look at some, and perhaps all, of: Critical realism, the Regulation School, Structuralist Marxism, Postmarxism, Governmentality, Genealogy, Cultural Marxism, Postcolonialism, and Practice theory.
