I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. My research focuses on urban inequality, tracing the influence of colonial-era and contemporary urban planning processes on the physical and social landscapes of cities in East Africa. Central to this work is understanding how spatial inequalities and divides become re-produced in the city and studying how these instances of spatial exclusion shape the lived experiences of urbanites, particularly those residing in informal settlements. Key areas of inquiry include the impact of class-based segregation on group identity, group consciousness, and group mobilization for improved service provision.
Before attending Berkeley, I earned my Bachelor's degree in International Studies from the University of California, Irvine.
