Polly Chan

Personal Statement

Polly Chan is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests include conflict, political violence, and survey methodology. Her ongoing research examines perceptions towards and support for violent conflict actors. Her work has been published in the Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and PartiesInternational Journal of Public Opinion Research, and Japanese Journal of Political Science

Polly holds an MPhil in International Relations from the University of Oxford and a BSocSc in Politics from the University of Hong Kong. At Berkeley, she has founded and been organizing the Conflict and Political Violence Workshop to discuss student work in progress on related topics. She is also a supporting team member of the Global Research Association of Politics in Hong Kong (GRAPH). Prior to starting her postgraduate studies, Polly was a freelance journalist and worked with The Economist, Novaya Gazeta, DIE ZEIT, Vice News, Berlingske, Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF), and Le Média.
