Graduate Students

Personal Statement:

I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Political Science and a Research Associate at the Center on the Politics of Development, University of California, Berkeley. I study party politics and voting behavior in emerging democracies, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. I am also interested in social networks, computer-assisted text analysis, and methods for causal inference.

My dissertation project examines the electoral vulnerability of African legislators, focusing on intraparty nominations and legislative elections. I will be conducting fieldwork in Kenya and Ghana from 2015 to 2016.

Prior to becoming a graduate student, I worked at the United Nations and served for two years as a military interpreter/translator for Eighth United States Army, United States Forces Korea. I received my M.A. in political science from UC Berkeley, and a B.A. in economics with highest honors from Korea University.
