David W. Bell Memorial Fellowship
The David William Bell Fellowship was established by Mr. William Bell and Dr. Gale Bell in memory of their son David. It is to be awarded as a grant-in-aid to an African-American graduate student in political science. It is preferred that the award be given to a first year student to support living and educational expenses of graduate study, but is not restricted to this criteria. The award can also be given to a student in their second or third year of study, or as a “top off” award to more than one first year or continuing students.
The department will post the award opportunity on its website and also on that of the Black Ivy Alumni League, http://www.theleagueonline.org/events1.php , to ensure prospective students are aware of the fellowship’s existence. The department requires a statement of purpose from each applicant, which is then reviewed internally and subsequently forwarded to the Bell Family for further review. The department and the Family will agree on the award recipient(s), with the final decision being made by the department chair, and notify the winner(s). The Family wishes to award $10,000 annually.
