Sarah Song's fields of interest include political and legal theory and the history of American political thought. Her research focuses on democratic theory in relation to issues of citizenship, nationalism, multiculturalism, cosmopolitanism, and immigration.
Her book, "Justice, Gender, and the Politics of Multiculturalism" (Cambridge, 2007), considers the relationship between liberal values and legal and informal accommodations for religious and cultural minorities. She explores the tensions between such accommodations and the pursuit of gender equality. Her current work explores issues of citizenship, sovereignty, and immigration within contemporary liberal and democratic theory.
