Course Description

We are living in a state facing several serious economic and political problems, and you, the future generation of Californians, will have no choice but to deal with them in life after Berkeley. This course is designed to give you real-world knowledge and the analytical tools you’ll need to understand what those problems are, where the sources of power lie in our state government, what levers of power can be pulled within that structure, and what political reforms and policy solutions are available that could make our state strong again. We will take a realistic approach to how solutions can be brokered in Sacramento given intense partisanship, voting patterns, campaign finance and lobbyist influence over legislators.
